The Munzert story
1925
Brothers Heinrich and Georg Munzert found the company. On 8 looms they begin producing clothing materials and damask. In the following decades the firm grows and grows. With the increasing number of looms, the number of employees increases, too. The first Jacquard machines are installed. A sizing room for the cotton warps is added.1938
The production buildings have become too small. An air-conditioned mill with 96 looms, state of the art at the time, is built.1938 bis 1945
During World War II there is an almost complete cessation of production. The factory buildings are used by an armaments manufacturer. As a result, there is a lack of staff and of raw materials to produce cloth with.1948
The end of post-war state control of industry and the currency reform in Germany lead to a new boom for our weaving-mill in Marlesreuth. As a result of increasing automation, a weaver can now operate up to 24 looms compared to only 2 in the year 1925.1952
One of the brothers, Heinrich Munzert, dies aged 56. His son Gerold takes his place in the management of the company.1957
Georg Munzert dies at the age of 66. His son Arno Munzert becomes the technical manager of the firm. Now the company is run by the second generation.1961
New production rooms are built and the number of looms increased to 150. The second-generation management decides to transfer the range of products from cotton damask to furniture fabrics and drapes. The old shuttle looms are gradually replaced by the more modern rapier looms.1970
A new building is added to house the dispatch department and an open-plan office.1978
In place of the old warehouse and factory, a modern building for warping, product inspection and storage is opened. Later the design studio and the development department move in here, too.1980
For the first time in the firm's history, Gebrüder Munzert takes part as an exhibitor at Heimtextil, the world's largest trade fair for home textiles, in Frankfurt am Main.1990
Arno Munzert retires, letting his son Klaus Munzert take over his place as technical manager.1991
The company exhibits at the Decosit in Bruxelles for the first time.1993
With the retirement of Gerold Munzert, Bernd Kout now takes over the post of sales manager.1996
Another first: Munzert exhibits at the Italian fair Proposte in Como.1997
A new mill with 50 looms is opened.2005
After extensive refurbishment and modernization the new administration building is opened.

Since its very beginnings, the company has regularly kept its machine park for warping, weaving and quality control as well as the technical equipment for administration and product development up to date. By continually investing in the works at Marlesreuth, the management of Gebrüder Munzert demonstrate their determination to keep up production at this location in North Bavaria and to stand their ground in today's global market with the hallmark "Made in Germany".
Today the company employs about 105 people.
On 66 Jacquard looms, upholstery fabrics and drapes are produced to be sold throughout the world.
50% of the company's production is exported.
