FR VISION – an outstanding element of textile art
The novel development transfers the art technique of tabula scalata to fabric surfaces, allowing changing design patterns to be revealed depending on the viewing angle. This visual effect not only opens up new design possibilities, but also creates a compelling acoustic effect through the tailored use of sound-relevant weaving technology. The result is a fabric that combines aesthetic fascination with functional excellence.
The inspiration for FR VISION derives from the historical art technique “Tabula Scalata“, which was popular in the 16th century. This technique allows two images to be arranged on a folded surface in such a way that a changing pattern is visible depending on the viewing angle. Martina Hümmer, a graduate designer at GEBRÜDER MUNZERT, was inspired by this optical illusion and developed the idea of transferring the effect to jacquard textiles.
Thanks to her expertise in combining shrink yarns with conceptual weaving techniques, she invented FR VISION, a fabric that forms a three-dimensional structure when exposed to heat. The resulting structure allows the fabric to present two different images depending on the observer‘s point of view. This effect gives the fabric a particular design strength and makes it a visual and haptic experience for the sensual architecture of the future.
For GEBRÜRDER MUNZERT, the realization of this idea accentuates the ambition to regard technical boundaries merely as an incentive for unprecedented textiles. FR VISION invites you to explore it from different perspectives and to uncover its surprising mutability.
